We have just returned from 4 day walking tour of Great Barrier Island. The trip was amazing – start to finish. The tour covered most of the key walks, and points on interest on the island. The scenery was absolutely spectacular. The surrounding coastline and beaches were breathtaking. Our guide, Hana, was so friendly, happy, well informed and accommodating – could not have been better. The accommodation at Great Barrier Island lodge was very well located – with a terrific beach right in front of the rooms. The family who owns and runs the lodge made a real effort to accommodate everyone’s dietary preferences. We were in a group of 8 people from very diverse geographies and cultures and we gelled incredibly well – lots of warmth and fun. We highly recommend the guides and the location.
Neither of us had been to Great Barrier Island before, this trip gave us a great sense of the islands’s culture, geography and beauty. There was a real mixture of walking, flat easy days mixed in with a good climb up Mt Hobson! The accomodation and food was also outstanding! We will be recommending this to our friends for sure!!!
The four day Great Barrier Island walking tour was absolutely fantastic. The island is gorgeous and the tour took us across most of the island to experience the best walks. Delightful accommodation at Shoal Bay. Comfortable rooms, yummy home cooking and down to earth hospitality. Our guide Brad was excellent. Very knowledgeable and very skilled at leading the group. The tour exceeded my expectations.
The Great Barrier Island hike was sensational – something of an undiscovered location, long may it stay that way. Beautiful bush and views on the hikes, and the most incredible beaches. Good accommodation and meals, and a fabulous guide who was knowledgeable and lots of fun.
Can’t recommend this highly enough. A wonderful 4 days on Great Barrier walking some great tracks – beautiful NZ bush, birds, stunning views, dolphins in the bay. A big shout out to our guides Karllie and Mike who were professional, organised, fun and managed to adapt the walks to what the weather was doing. Thanks, team, you were as much of a highlight as the scenary. Hope to walk with you again sometime.
I completed the 4-day Great Barrier Island Escape as a part of a group of 11. We have done walks together in the past, but this will be remembered as one of the best. From admin at the time of booking, to being met at the airport by our outstanding guides, Brad and Callum, being expertly driven around the island, the amazing accommodation and meals at Shoal Bay Lodge through to the quality of the walks themselves, we couldn’t have asked for more. The climb to the top of Mt Hobson was a challenge but with the encouragement from our guides (not to mention the welcome hot drinks) we all made it. Other walks were varied and interesting and gave us a good feel for the island, it’s history, flora and fauna and beaches. Highly recommended.
All four of us had a phenomenal time. I can’t imagine more gorgeous terrain or a better route to experience the variety of landscapes of the park. I would definitely say a well developed appreciation for getting out there and solid fitness are prerequisites for this trip, though. It’s quite a walk! Also, I should mention that the tents, sleeping bags, and food Svanhvít and her partner provided for us were top notch. Great stuff!
Awesome trek with wonderful guideMy wife and I did the Núpsstaðaskógar trek in Iceland with Dan in July 2022. Between amazing hiking and scenery and Dan’s wonderful guiding, it was a perfect trip. The route, selected by Dan, passes through spectacular, varied and diverse terrain. Broad green valleys with streams and impressive waterfalls. High desolate plateaus and ridges with big views of glaciers, peaks and the Vatanjokull ice cap. Full day glacier crossing. Fabulous campsites. Were completely alone for the whole trip. Dan is a fantastic guide. Fun to hang out with, good stories and conversation, high level of technical skills, patient and supportive and attentive, well organized. I can unreservedly recommend this trip and Dan – one of the highlights of our trip to Iceland.
Unreal views and great guidingI did a guided trip in Iceland with Dan and it was a fantastic experience! We were hiking over some pretty slippery terrain near Skeiðarárjökull glacier. The conditions were tough at times but Dan made sure everyone felt safe. He was very attentive during the hike especially when crossing the more challenging areas. I would definitely recommend Dan as a guide. He is really good at assessing when to push you a little beyond your comfort zone and when you need a hand. Thanks for the awesome trip Dan!
M2M IcelandThe most supportive, helpful and confidence giving experience with these two in Iceland. They made the whole trip so memorable with their knowledge and were part of our team from day one, not just our guides. Thank you
